Solemnity of Sts. Peter & Paul
The Solemnity of Sts Peter and Paul - a Holy Day of Obligation - is celebrated on Friday 29th June.  There will be a vigil Mass at Christ the King at 7.00 pm on Thursday 28th June [which fulfils the obligation]. On Friday 29th June Mass at St. Margaret Mary at 9.30 am [with St. Margaret Mary Primary School] and at Christ the King at 11.45 am [with Newman School].  As it is a solemnity - meat may be eaten…

Newman Chapel Fund
We have been asked, as a parish, to contribute £9000 towards the expected £75,000 build cost for a new chapel within the new Newman School. We are very grateful for three donations received last week of £1000, £100, and £100 from parishioners.  If you would like to make a donation towards the building cost this can be made via cheque [‘Newman Chapel Fund’] or in cash.  Please enclose in an envelope marked ‘Newman Chapel Fund’. Holy Mass will be offered regularly at Newman School for the intention of benefactors.  Parish total so far is £7,520.
At a later date, there will be a need to supply the new chapel with particular items eg. vestments and altar linens, altar, ambo etc.  You may wish, at that point, to donate an item for the intention of a particular person or family.  More details will follow at a later date - our priority at the moment is raising the funds to build the chapel.

School Gala - Celebrating 80 years of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Primary School
On Sunday July 8th from 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm.  If you, or if you know of any business, that would like to donate raffle prizes then please get in touch with the school. The day will include an exhibition of photos of 80 years of the school, a short screening of a documentary about the school, bouncy castle, stalls and much much more. Stalls are available for hire at £10.00.

St. Margaret Mary Food Parcels
Once again St Margaret Mary SVP will be distributing food parcels to local families before the school summer holidays. Tinned fruit and meats are especially welcome. We aim to distribute parcels the week beginning 9th July. Thank you once again for your continued support.

The Food Bank organisers send their thanks for our recent donations. Items in short supply are UHT milk, tinned rice pudding, tinned fruit and vegetables, and tinned meals. Please leave your donations in the basket in the porch at Christ the King.

The Sacrament of Confirmation
Bishop Paul Swarbrick will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for the parish during the 11.00 am Mass on the Feast of Christ the King [25th November]. Catechesis for young parishioners will commence on the 16th September and will be held fortnightly on Sunday evenings [6.00 pm to 7.00 pm].  Parents of youngsters aged 10 or above who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation should email names to Fr Michael [sacredheartcarlisle@icloud.com]: this is to enable resources to be ordered in good time.

Offertory and Figures
Attendance last week was 190 [back to earth with a bang…] Offertory contribution £697.90. Many thanks for your generosity.

Diocesan Youth Service
Are looking to recruit a new Retreat Leader. This is a paid, live-in post that would suit someone with experience of Youth Ministry. For info contact www.castleriggmanor.co.uk. 

Being a Young Catholic Today
A three-day gathering for young Catholics, aged between 16-23 years, from 14-17 July at Hinsley Hall, Leeds. Organised and funded by the Knights of St Columba. Further details available from Tony Parrini - email: tony.parrini@btconnect.com/tel. 674553.  The cost is met by the Knights of St. Columba.

Tea and Coffee after Mass
As well as refreshments being available after the Sunday Masses on Wednesday and Thursday we have an impromptu ‘Coffee Morning’ after the celebration of Mass - why not come along, especially if you are home alone most of the week.  A good excuse to get out and enjoy relaxed conversation over a cup of tea and coffee.  If you fancy baking a cake for either Wednesday or Thursday - feel free to bring it along.

Help Needed
Two churches, four houses, two car parks and a Parish Centre [excluding Harraby Catholic Club and the Stewards House] is a lot of plant to take care of. If you have experience in health and safety, environmental health, building maintenance and would be willing to assist with the oversight of parish assets, Fr Michael is looking for help…none so far…should we close everything….?

Friday Fish Supper
On Friday 6th July, a Fish & Chip Supper will be held in the Parish Centre at 8.00 pm.  This is organised by members of the Parish and the Knights of St. Columba.  The cost is £5.00 per person. Pre booking is required. If interested in attending, please see Paul Lovell or Peter Osborne by Sunday 1st July.

The Sixteen Choral Pilgrimage 2018
Choral Pilgrimage 2018; Sacred and Profane - to be held on Thursday 5 July at 7.30 pm  in Carlisle Cathedral. Join The Sixteen in an exploration of the sacred and secular works of 16th century composers William Cornysh (both father and son) and 20th century master of the voice, Benjamin Britten. BBC Songs of Praise - Singers Wanted

Altar Servers & Handmaids
Any boy who has made their First Holy Communion is invited to serve on the sanctuary during the celebration of Mass.
Any girl who has made their First Holy Communion is invited to become a ‘Handmaid of the Sacred Heart’ and assist in the setting up of church for the celebration of Mass.

Newman Chapel Fund

Bishop Paul Swarbrick
Bishop Paul thanks parishioners for your warm welcome and hospitality during his recent visit to the parish. He wrote that he 'thoroughly enjoyed the celebration for your Patronal Feast!’ It was a great occasion for the parish, as was the First Holy Communion on Sunday: thank you to all who worked behind the scenes to make these celebrations such a success.

Thank You
William and family would like to thank everyone who came for tea on Sunday, a great afternoon was had by all. Your generosity and friendship has enabled Will to go to Lourdes once again on 20th July. Grandma (Lyn) is going with him this year and we will be happy to take your petitions with us and we will keep you in our prayers.

Companion Dog Show & Fun Day

A Tea Party Invitation 
It’s getting nearer to the time to go to Lourdes again so William and Lyn invite you to a little tea party on Sunday 10th June from 2.00 - 5.00 pm at 1 Forest Hill, CA1 3HF.  On offer will be: tea and biscuits; coffee and cakes and prosecco and pudding. Please join us for a drink, a nibble and a chat.

First Holy Communion
First Holy Communion will be celebrated in the parish during the 11.00 am Mass on Sunday 10th June.  Please keep the children in your prayers as they prepare to receive our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament for the first time.  Please also pray especially hard that their families will allow them to continue to attend Mass frequently after the event…

The Sacrament of Confirmation
Parents who would like their child [Year 6 and above] to be prepared for the Sacrament of Confirmation should attend an information meeting on Wednesday 13th June at 7.00 pm in St. Margaret Mary Church.

Eucharistic Congress
On the weekend of 7th-9th September, there is a national Eucharistic Congress in Liverpool to deepen our appreciation and love of the gift of Christ in the Eucharist. There will be a parish pilgrimage to the Congress on Saturday 8th September, where the key-note speaker is Bishop Robert Barron. 22 parishioners will be attending the congress on Saturday: there is still time if you would like to go - see Fr Michael as soon as possible.

Events at Castlerigg Manor
Sponsored Walk - a new venture to raise the funds to support our work. We are looking to recruit a small group for a challenging 15 mile walk in the Lake District, on Monday 28 May, with a target to raise £1,000 each. If you or a parishioner would be enthusiastic to take part, please get in touch; if people aren’t able to join us walking, they can still support us through collecting sponsorship and we’d be grateful for your support in any way. Bishop Paul is taking part for all 15 miles, 6,300 ft of climbing and twelve fells. Sr Gerald had a great way of finding out when people needed a pastoral visit from the parish priest or when they were in hospital. If you know someone in either of these positions, please notify Fr Michael as soon as possible either by phone, via email or in person after Mass.

Readers Needed
Parishioners who are willing and able to proclaim the Word of God at Masses - please see Fr Michael.  We particularly need readers on Saturday evenings.

Picnic in Aid of Carlisle Food Bank and Carlisle Key
Staff of the Combined Court, Carlisle, are hosting a picnic, on Thursday 28 June, at 6.30 pm, in the grounds of St Cuthbert’s church (inside if wet). Music will be provided by the Border Concert Band and the Cartmell Shepherd Choir. 
A fund-raiser for Carlisle Food Bank, providing food for people in a crisis, and for Carlisle Key, helping young people move to independent living. 
Three-course picnic: £30 for two, including soft drink, tea or coffee. Alcohol will be available for purchase. All the food is being donated by local businesses. Bring your own rug. To book, please phone Revd Keith Teasdale on 521982.

St. Augustines are hosting their traditional Car Boot Sale on Monday 28th May, to which all are invited. Cars - £5.00/cars with trailers or vans - £8.00.  Admission 20p.  Gates open for sellers from 7.00 am.

The Extended Family of RSHM (St Gabriel's Sisters)
Invite you to a celebration of their Feast Day on Saturday 9th June in The Waterton Hall. The day will begin with coffee immediately after the 10.00 am Mass at Our Lady's. The speaker is Sister Juunza Mwangani, a Holy Spirit sister based in Zambia, where she has been the senior administrator at the Monze Mission Hospital for eight years. The day will finish with a shared lunch. It would be lovely if you could come and share this day with us.

Thrice Brewed

Companion Dog Show & Fun Day
This Sunday afternoon from 2.00 pm, we have a Fun Day with a Companion Dog Show at St. Margaret Mary. There’ll be a variety of stalls and refreshments will be available. Please come along!

Talk on the Martyrs of Cumbria
Chris Robson, a worker for Aid to the Church in  Need, is coming to the parish on Wednesday 23rd May to deliver a talk on the ‘Martyrs of Cumbria’.  The talk will be held at 7.30 pm in the Parish Centre.  All welcome!
