Novena for Forgiveness
The Holy Year of Mercy concludes on the Solemnity of Christ the King.  We are holding a novena ‘for Forgiveness’ in the form of a Holy Hour with readings, prayers and litanies.  Please come along to Christ the King at 5.00 pm to join this Novena for Forgiveness.

Carlisle Food Bank
Please continue to support this worthy initiative via the basket in the porch at Christ the King. We have been asked by Carlisle Food Bank if we can particularly supply UHT Milk, Rice Pudding, Custard, Tinned Fruit, Pasta Sauce. There is a basket in the porch for items at Christ the King. Stocks are short at the moment - tinned meat and other items high in protein would be greatly appreciated.

St. Margaret Mary SVP Food Distribution
Once again St Margaret Mary SVP will be distributing food parcels before Christmas to local families in need. Tinned meats and fruit are especially welcome. It is hoped to distribute parcels the week beginning 12th December so please check 'best before' dates. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity.

Sacred Heart Baby & Toddler Group
This group meets in St. Margaret Mary school on Wednesday mornings from 9.15 am.

Weekday Mass Times
I am currently considering celebrating an early morning Mass each day at Christ the King [at 8.00 am] rather than chopping and changing each week so that there is a regular rhythm to the liturgical life in the parish.  It would also meet a need in Carlisle for a regular early morning Mass and would facilitate a spiritual need within my own priesthood to begin each morning with the celebration of Holy Mass.
At St. Margaret Mary’s there would still be a 9.15 am school Mass on a Wednesday and an evening Mass for ‘workers’ on Tuesdays [additional] and on Fridays. My rest day on Monday and Education Service Work on Thursdays [with meetings beyond 6.00 pm prevent an evening Mass on these days.
I’d still welcome any views on this.

Spiritual Direction/Guidance
Fr. Michael is available [by appointment] for regular individual Spiritual Direction/Guidance.  A few parishioners already benefit from this means of spiritual support on a fortnightly basis.  Each session lasts no more than 45 minutes and is a help in personal prayer and living our calling as baptised followers of Jesus Christ.  For more information, please don’t hesitate to speak to Fr. Michael.

Childrens Liturgy at St. Margaret Mary
Children's Liturgy are in need of six new angel costumes for our Christmas celebrations. If anyone has any sewing skills and spare time, please see a member of the children's liturgy team to discuss.

Deanery Mass for Deceased Clergy
Each year during November, the parishes of the Deanery celebrate Mass together for the deceased clergy who have served the deanery.  This year, St Augustine’s is hosting this Mass on Tuesday 15 November at 11.00am. All parishioners are warmly invited – indeed encouraged! – to attend.

Day of Renewal — Preston
Turning the world upside down, is the theme of a day of renewal led by university chaplain, Fr Philip Connor, St Clare’s parish hall, Sharoe Green Lane, Preston PR2 9HH; Saturday 15 October, 10.00 am - 4.00 pm. For further information, contact Bernard Loveland, on 015395-63391.

Sacrament of the Sick
Please request the sacrament of the sick in good time for loved ones who are sick.  We have had a number of people pass away without there being recourse to a priest.  A priest is always willing to attend no matter what time of day or night to someone who requires this sacrament and to grant absolution.
