Next Sunday is Gaudete Sunday - but it’s also Bambinelli Sunday in the Parish! Bambinelli Sunday is the day to bring the child Jesus from the nativity sets in your homes to Mass for a special blessing! Bring him along next Sunday and after the distribution of Holy Communion, they’ll be blessed ready to be placed in your cribs at home this Christmas.
The Parish Carol Service will take place on Sunday 17th December beginning at 7.00 pm in Christ The King Church. Please make every effort to support this Parish event. It will be followed by festive refreshments in the Presbytery. Please come along.
Carol Singing Pennine Lodge
Volunteers are needed to sing carols for the residents at Pennine Lodge (top of Pennine Way, Harraby) on Tuesday 19th December. Meet at 6.00 pm. Everyone welcome.
Christmas Mass Times
The normal Sunday Masses remain the same on Christmas Eve Morning. Masses for the Christmas obligation are as follows:
6.30 pm [Vigil] St. Margaret Mary
10.00 pm [‘during the Night’] Christ the King
8.00 am [‘at Dawn’] St. Margaret Mary
10.00 am [‘during the Day’] Christ the King
On Friday 15th December, we will be preparing Christ The King Church for the celebration of our Christmas Liturgies. We would appreciate some help in decorating the church and putting up the crib. If you could help, please come to church at 10.00 am on the above day.
Rorate Caeli Mass
The Rorate Caeli Mass is a traditional Advent devotion, wherein the Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary for Advent is offered just before dawn and is lit by candlelight alone. The interplay of light and darkness speak to the meaning of Advent and the coming of the Light of the world. There will be a sung Rorate Caeli Mass celebrated at Christ the King on Saturday 16th December at 7.30 am. Why not make this a special moment in your preparation for Christmas.
Sacrament of Reconciliation - Confession
Please make an extra effort to go to confession during Advent. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available at St. Margaret Mary on Tuesday and Friday evening from 6.30 pm and on Sunday morning from 10.30 am. At Christ the King - Saturday evening from 5.00 pm.
Mass with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
Many thanks to the SVP for organising this event and also to those who came along, including Fr John Moriarty.
They will have their monthly meeting on Thursday 14th December - the subject will be Christmas Flowers.
SVP Food Parcels at St. Margaret Mary
Thank you for your support of this appeal - your help was greatly appreciated.
Carlisle Food Bank
The Food Bank organisers send their thanks for our recent donations. Items in short supply are UHT milk, tinned rice pudding, tinned fruit and vegetables, and tinned meals. Please leave your donations in the basket in the porch at Christ the King.
During Advent we again are united in turning towards the Lord together as priest and people as we await his coming at Christmas. All Masses during Advent will be celebrated ad orientem [facing East], as was the custom last year.
Advent Calendar for the Hungry
It’s simple - instead of opening the window on an Advent Calendar - in a bag or a box place one item of food each day during Advent [see food bank notice above for ideas] you can bring the items you’ve collected and place them in the Food Bank Basket [CTK] or SVP Box each week [MM] or on Christmas Eve where items can be placed around the Crib as a gift to the Infant Lord.
Offertory and Figures for Last Weekend
Numbers at Mass were Saturday evening - 60 Sunday 9.00 am - 51 and Sunday 11.00 am - 94 A total of 205. Thank you for the offering of £442.52 at Christ the King and £217.75 at St. Margaret Mary. The total being £660.27.
Catholic Schools and the Government
From the Bishop: “Do you support Catholic schools and the right of Catholics to send their children to them? Then we need you to make your voice heard.
“The Government is making a critical decision on whether to overturn the admissions cap which prevents Catholic schools from allowing all Catholic pupils to attend. It has acknowledged that this policy discriminates against Catholics and promised to abandon it. Now we need you to tell the Government not to u-turn on their promise to Catholics. Visit http://catholicnews.org.uk/ or search for ‘Catholic Education’ in your search engine to write to the Government and urge it to drop their policy which bans new Catholic schools. Thank you.” Michael G Campbell OSA
