Ascension Thursday 
In England & Wales, we have reverted to celebrating the Ascension of the Lord on the day itself, rather than on the following Sunday. There will be a Vigil Mass at Christ the King at 7.00 pm on Wednesday 9th May, Mass at 9.30 am at St. Margaret Mary [with Primary School] and 11.45 am at Christ the King [with Newman School] on Thursday 10th May.

That’s Entertainment
A major fund-raising event for Newman Chapel will be a variety show, That’s Entertainment, to be held on Friday 11 May 2018, in the Sands Centre. Tickets may be obtained from the Sands Centre - £10/£8.  PLEASE SUPPORT THIS. 

Newman School Chapel — Raffle Tickets on Sale   
In conjunction with the concert in the Sands Centre, there is a raffle underway to help raise funds for the chapel in the new school. These are on sale after Mass this weekend. Thank you for your support.

Companion Dog Show & Fun Day
To be held at 2.00 pm on the 20th May at St. Margaret Mary. We are looking for volunteers to help on the day. Please see Maria, Elisabeth, Alison or Liz. Donations of soft toys, groceries, bric a brac  and doggie things!  will all be gratefully received.

Carlisle Food Bank
The Food Bank organisers send their thanks for our recent donations. Items in short supply are UHT milk, tinned rice pudding, tinned fruit and vegetables, and tinned meals. Please leave your donations in the basket in the porch at Christ the King.

Eucharistic Congress
On the weekend of 7th-9th September, there is a national Eucharistic Congress in Liverpool to deepen our appreciation and love of the gift of Christ in the Eucharist. There will be a parish pilgrimage to the Congress on Saturday 8th September, where the key-note speaker is Bishop Robert Barron. To sign up for this [the cost will be £50] - please use the sheets provided.  More details will be available nearer the time, but we need to confirm numbers for tickets.

Events at Castlerigg Manor

The Family Weekend (25-27 May) is an opportunity for families to come together for the weekend. There will be activities for all age groups and the opportunity to meet old friends and get to know new ones. Open to all families.

Sponsored Walk - a new venture to raise the funds to support our work. We are looking to recruit a small group for a challenging 15 mile walk in the Lake District, on Monday 28 May, with a target to raise £1,000 each. If you or a parishioner would be enthusiastic to take part, please get in touch; if people aren’t able to join us walking, they can still support us through collecting sponsorship and we’d be grateful for your support in any way. 
Bishop Paul is taking part for all 15 miles, 6,300 ft of climbing and twelve fells. If you would like to sponsor Bishop Paul, visit

Many parishioners throughout the diocese support the Cenacolo Community at Dodding Green. There is an open day on Sunday 6th May. Mass at 12 noon. Details:

Castlerigg Manor Opportunities
We are looking for committed young Catholics to join our team as new Retreat Leaders or gap year volunteers, to start this summer. If you are interested, you will find more information on our website: and you can download the posters here.

In the Know?
Sr Gerald had a great way of finding out when people needed a pastoral visit from the parish priest or when they were in hospital. If you know someone in either of these positions, please notify Fr Michael as soon as possible either by phone, via email or in person after Mass.

Talk on the Martyrs of Cumbria
Chris Robson, a worker for Aid to the Church in  Need, is coming to the parish on Wednesday 23rd May to deliver a talk on the ‘Martyrs of Cumbria’.  The talk will be held at 7.30 pm in the Parish Centre.  All welcome!

Piano Recital at Lancaster University Chapel
On Wednesday 16th May 2018 at 7.00 pm.  Liszt's Via Crucis. The pianist is Alesandra Pompili, an internationally-acclaimed pianist, who is giving the concert on behalf of Aid to the Church in Need. There will be refreshments and car parking is free and available in the evenings around the Chaplaincy Centre.

Readers Needed
Parishioners who are willing and able to proclaim the Word of God at Masses - please see Fr Michael.  We particularly need readers on Saturday evenings.

Picnic in Aid of Carlisle Food Bank
On Thursday, 28th June 2018, at 6.30 pm in the grounds of St Cuthbert’s Church (inside if wet), there will be a picnic with music provided by The Border Concert Band and The Cartmell Shepherd Choir.  The event is to raise money for Carlisle Food Bank, providing food for people in a crisis, and Carlisle Key, helping young people move to independent living. There will be a 3 Course Picnic. Cost -  £30 for two, including soft drink and tea or coffee.  Alcohol available for purchase. All the food will be donated by local businesses. Bring your own rug.  There will also be a raffle. Please book with Rev. Teasdale as soon as possible on 01228 521982 if you would like to attend.
