First Friday Fish Supper

Welcome to students of the University of Cumbria.
We welcome students from University, particularly those training to be teachers in our schools. Please introduce yourself to Fr. Michael - you’re very welcome to the parish and we hope your time in Carlisle is an enjoyable experience.

Education Service Stuff
The next few weeks will be a bit crazy with regard to ‘Education Service’ work for Fr. Michael. It will mean that on some days there will be no public celebration Mass in the parish due to early departure and late return.  He has now listed his mobile phone on the newsletter should you wish to contact him: sometimes a Text Message may be easier than a call and he’ll respond when he is able.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause - things may quieten down after half-term [Here’s hoping].

First Saturday Mass and Devotions

This Saturday we have the Fatima devotions at St. Margaret Mary. Our Lady of Fatima asked that for five First Saturdays: we attend Mass; go to confession; meditate for 15 minutes on one of the mysteries of the Holy Rosary and pray the Holy Rosary in reparation for the sins of the world.  These devotions begin with Mass at 10.00 am.  Think about coming along.

Aid to the Church in Need
Aid to the Church in Need, a charity which assists persecuted Christians throughout the world, is encouraging us to ‘Go to Mass for someone who can’t’ due to persecution.  They ask you to consider coming to an extra Mass during the week to pray for someone who, due to persecution, is unable to attend Mass.  Can you come to Mass for someone who can’t?

Drinks for Life
North Cumbria Life Group will be holding a reception in the Edwardian Room of the Crown & Mitre Hotel, Carlisle, on Monday 15th October from 6.00 pm. If you are curious about what we do or perhaps you feel you can become involved, you are very welcome to join us.

Parish Ladies Group
Ladies Group will meet at 7.30 pm on Tuesday the 2nd October.  The evening will consist of a demonstration of Autumn Flowers. All are welcome…well, if you’re a lady.

Diocesan Annual Census
The annual Mass count takes place over the next few weeks.  Please make an extra effort to attend Mass in the parish.

Cafod Fast Day - [even though its a Feast Day!]

CAFOD FAMILY FAST DAY is on Friday 5th October 2018. On this Friday, we are invited to eat simply - perhaps having a bowl of soup instead of a meal - and give the money we save to help people in the developing world.

Mass Sheets with Readings
From the beginning of Advent, we’ll no longer have the sheets with the prayers and readings at Mass: whilst they provide the readings each week, it is a wasteful, and perhaps even disrespectful, way to engage with the Sacred Scripture during Mass: the majority of sheets end up in landfill - is this how we should be treating the ‘Word of God’ printed on these pages?
Those who wish to have the readings available are recommended to purchase a Missal: these contain not just the readings for each Mass but also the texts of other parts of the Mass.  There are a number of versions available through online retailers.
The parish is willing to order, from the Catholic Truth Society, two Missals for parishioners.  An ‘Annual Missal’ in paperback which is £5 or a full three-year Missal which the parish will subsidise - it is hardbound and will cost £15.  If you would like to order one, please register your interest on forms available in both churches.  Examples of the two Missals are also there.
Apps are available for ‘Smart Phones’ and other devices. Please note that Missals published prior to liturgical changes have no change to readings but the Mass texts are different.

Offertory and Figures
199 were at Mass last weekend.  Thank you for your offertory contribution of £580.39.
