The Sacrament of Confirmation
Bishop Paul Swarbrick will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for the parish during the 11.00 am Mass on the Feast of Christ the King [25th November]. Catechesis takes place fortnightly on Sunday evenings [6.00 pm to 7.00 pm].  Parents of youngsters aged 10 or above who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation should email names to Fr Michael [sacredheartcarlisle@icloud.com].  It is not too late to come along…

Newman Chapel Fund
We have been asked, as a parish, to contribute £9,000 towards the expected £75,000 build cost for a new chapel within the new Newman School.  If you would like to make a donation towards the building cost this can be made via cheque [‘Newman Chapel Fund’] or in cash.  Please enclose in an envelope marked ‘Newman Chapel Fund’. Holy Mass will be offered regularly at Newman School for the intention of benefactors.  The total now stands at £9,210.  If you would still like to make a donation please feel free to do so.   

Offertory and Figures
66+44+133 [243] were at Mass last weekend.  Thank you for your offertory contribution of £602.28.

Carlisle Food Bank
Food items most needed: tins of meat (mince, hotdogs, casseroles and stews, ham, corned beef), tins of fish, tins of fruit, tins of rice pudding, packets of custard, dried potato, dried pasta or rice meals, multipack cereals, UHT milk, biscuits, dried packets of sauce mix.”

Annual Education Mass
All parishioners are invited to join Bishop Paul Swarbrick at the annual Diocese of Lancaster Education Mass on Friday 12th October at 7.00 pm in Lancaster Cathedral.  This is the Bishop’s first Education Mass as our new Bishop and he looks forward to welcoming you there. This invitation extends in a special way to all those involved in education and faith formation;  priests, deacons, catechists, youth ministry, children’s liturgy, those in seminary and teachers outside of the Catholic sector.  The celebration gives us the opportunity to express our thanks and acknowledge the contribution made by all those in the Diocese involved in the work of education and formation in the faith.  Together, we ask for God’s blessing on the mission of education and formation in our diocese.

Missionary Appeal
Next week the Volunteer Missionary Movement will be visiting our parish to make a Missions Appeal.  If you are interested in learning about opportunities in mission volunteer work, please contact them.  Anyone over 18 can apply for their short term projects - no experience necessary. There will be a collection for their work - please bring a few bob extra to Mass with you next week.

Aid to the Church in Need
Aid to the Church in Need, a charity which assists persecuted Christians throughout the world, is encouraging us to ‘Go to Mass and Adoration for someone who can’t due to persecution.  They ask you to consider coming to an extra Mass or attending Eucharistic Adoration during the week to pray for someone who, due to persecution, is unable to attend Mass or Adoration.  Can you come to Mass or Adoration for someone who can’t?

Drinks for Life
North Cumbria Life Group will be holding a reception in the Edwardian Room of the Crown & Mitre Hotel, Carlisle on Monday 15th October from 6.00 pm. If you are curious about what we do or perhaps you feel you can become involved, you are very welcome to join us.

Diocesan Annual Census
The annual Mass count takes place over the next few weeks.  Please make an extra effort to attend Mass in the parish.

Holy Rosary
Please respond to Pope Francis’ request by praying the Rosary each day during the month of October. Sheets which explain how to pray the Rosary are available in both churches. You may also wish to gather with other parishioners on Monday evenings at St. Margaret Mary.

Rosary Beneath the Cross
This Sunday at 3.00 pm, Catholics across the world are gathering to pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.  Fr Michael will be in St. Margaret Mary’s if you care to join him.  For more information, please visit https://www.rosaryonthecoast.co.uk.

Festival Choir
The Festival Choir will be starting again from Sunday 7th October. We would love to have some new members to swell our ranks. You don't have to be musical and everyone can sing. Sessions are from 7.00 to 8.30 pm at Christ The King. Young people would be especially welcome. Please give it some thought.

Prisoners Sunday
Prisoners’ Sunday on 14th October 2018 is the national day of prayer and action for prisoners and their dependants, as marked by the Catholic Church and across the Christian denominations. It is a day to direct our thoughts and prayers to prisoners, their families and children. Prisoners’ Sunday is the time to reflect on how we as individuals, as a Church and as a community are serving those affected by imprisonment. 

The Border Regiment and World War One 
Stuart Eastwood, Curator of Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life at Carlisle Castle, will be giving a special talk about The Border Regiment & World War One on Friday 2 November at 7.30pm in St James Church, Carlisle CA2 5PD. Free entry; retiring collection to support Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life.
