Holy Week in the Parish

14th April - Palm Sunday

Mass as usual on Saturday evening.  There will be one Mass, at 10.00 am, at Christ the King on Palm Sunday Morning.
17th April - Spy Wednesday
At 6.00 pm at St. Margaret Mary pupils from our Primary School will present a Passion Play: please support them by coming along.

18th April - Maundy Thursday

Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7.00 pm at St. Margaret Mary, followed by watching at the Altar of Repose until 10.00 pm, concluding with Compline [Night Prayer]

19th April - Good Friday

Office of Readings and Morning Prayer at 10.00 am at St. Margaret Mary.  Solemn Commemoration of Our Lord’s Passion and Death at 3.00 pm at St. Margaret Mary.

20th April - Holy Saturday

Office of Readings and Morning Prayer at 10.00 am at St. Margaret Mary.  12.00 noon Blessing of Easter Food at St. Margaret Mary.  8.00 pm The Easter Vigil and First Mass of Easter at St. Margaret Mary.

21st April - Easter Sunday
Masses as normal - 9.00 am Christ the King and 11.00 am St. Margaret Mary.

Readers and Eucharistic Ministers for The Triduum
Sign up sheets will shortly be available for both churches. Could you please indicate those times when you will be available during the Triduum which, this year, is being celebrated in St Margaret Mary. Thanks.

Festival Choir
The festival choir meets to prepare for celebrating Easter on Sunday evenings at 7.00 pm. The Triduum will be celebrated at St Margaret Mary this year so rehearsals will be there. Please consider joining us, everyone is welcome especially the young and young at heart!

St. Margaret Mary School Passion Play
On the evening of Spy Wednesday [the Wednesday of Holy Week - 17th April] pupils from St. Margaret Mary will perform a Passion Play at St. Margaret Mary Church. Please make a note in your diary to come along!

Carlisle Passion Play
The script has been written specially for the people of Carlisle by John Davies, Classic Theatre Cumbria’s Artistic Director and actor. It will be performed on stage in front of the Old Town Hall on Saturday 13 April at 11.00 am & 2.00 pm. It will last about 75 minutes and is suitable for all ages. Free seating is available. The Play will be followed up by various activities by Churches Together during Holy Week, Monday 15 to Friday 19 April, in the Old Town Hall Square.

SVP Food Parcels
St Margaret Mary SVP would like to thank all who contributed to the Easter food parcels, all of which have now been delivered to local families in need. A special word of thanks to those who helped distribute the parcels. Your continued support is very much appreciated.

Feast of Divine Mercy
A celebration of divine mercy will be held in St Bede’s, Carlisle on Sunday 28 April at 2.15 pm. Experience the mercy and the love of the Lord in this celebration. For details of the afternoon, see the poster in the foyer.

Offertory and Figures
Mass attendance: 63 + 71 + 101  = 235
Offertory Contribution: £395 + £242.20 = £637.20. Many thanks. 

Carlisle Food Bank
Food items most needed: tins of meat (mince, hotdogs, casseroles and stews, ham, corned beef), tins of fish, tins of fruit, tins of rice pudding, packets of custard, dried potato, dried pasta or rice meals, multipack cereals, UHT milk, biscuits, dried packets of sauce mix. Please avoid bringing soup and beans - there is a stockpile of these items.  Tins of meat are especially in need.

First Holy Communion
First Holy Communion will be celebrated in the Parish on Sunday 28th April 2019 [the Second Sunday of Easter]. 

First Friday Fish & Chips
The next First Friday Fish and Chips will be held on Friday 5th April after Mass & Devotions [approx. 8.00 pm].  The cost is £6.00 per person.  Pre-booking is required for catering purposes.  Please see Paul Lovell or Peter Osborne to book your place.

Ladies Group
Meet on Tuesday evening after the evening celebration of Mass. The speaker this time will be Mrs Liz Mallinson a City and County Councillor.

Pilgrimage to Carfin Grotto - National Marian Shrine for Scotland
The Catenians invite all parishioners to come along on this pilgrimage on Saturday 4th May 2019 leaving Our Lady & St. Joseph Church, Warwick Square, Carlisle at 9.30 am, St. Augustine Church, Scotland Road, Carlisle at 9.40 am.  Return by 6.00 pm.
Cost £10.00 per person.  Children under 15 free.  Please sign up on sheets in churches and indicate whether you are taking a packed lunch or using the cafe.

Gift Aid - Making Your Donation Go Further

Envelopes for the next financial year will be available shortly for those parishioners who are members of the scheme. Standing Order donors do not need to take any further action unless they wish to increase their contribution. If a parishioner, who is a taxpayer, would like to join the scheme, please contact Judith on 526781 for CTK or Richard on 544737 for StMM. If you have ceased paying tax or changed address and are part of the scheme, please notify the organisers. Please consider giving via the Gift Aid scheme - it increases your donation without any additional cost to you.

Lenten Course - Word on Fire
Lent is here and we’re sending out a series of short videos (once per week) by Bishop Robert Barron, on the subjects connected to Lent, to help in our preparation of Easter. The videos are short and there are questions for you to consider. If you know of someone (whether religious or not!) who is yet to sign up, or you feel would benefit from learning more about Christ’s Church, please direct them to https://app.flocknote.com/StHerberts. Lenten Stations and Hunger Lunches
Christ the King
These will take place each Friday of Lent, beginning on 8th March, from 12.00 noon at Christ The King. We will again, this year, be supporting Mary’s Meals, an organisation working to provide a daily meal for school children throughout the world. This Charity is active in 18 countries, supporting 1.5 million children.

St. Margaret Mary
There will be Lenten Lunches in the Parish Centre following Stations of the Cross at 12.00 noon at St. Margaret Mary beginning Tuesday 12th March.

Taize Worship
On Thursday 28th March, we are holding a Taize style evening of worship and quiet reflection at 7.00 pm at Christ The King Church. Please make every effort to attend and maybe bring someone else along.

Mass Intentions
Just a gentle reminder: if you have a specific date you would like to keep, then please provide plenty of notice, i.e. at least one month in advance. Fr Michael does his best to allocate Mass intentions for a specific date when requested but sometimes these dates have already been allocated.  In those cases, he allocates as near a date as possible.

First Holy Communion
First Holy Communion will be celebrated in the Parish on Sunday 28th April 2019 [the Second Sunday of Easter]. Catechesis continues on Thursday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Primary School.

Diocesan Directory 2019 
The new diocesan directory is available in the sacristy of both churches - price £3.50.

Please Support Our Parish Centre
The bar helps offset any cost to the parish of maintaining the parish centre for parish activities.  Even though it is Lent, why not drop in, for a ‘medicinal’ beer or glass of wine to support the centre. A group of parishioners venture to the centre after Mass on a Friday evening - why not join them?

Lent Talk at St. Catherine’s, Penrith
The Eucharist foreshadowed in the Old Testament by Canon Luiz Ruscillo on Thursday 28 March 2019 at 7.30 pm in the Haydock Centre, behind St Catherine’s Church, Drovers Lane, Penrith, CA11 9EL. All Welcome. Tea and Coffee available.

End of Term

Our schools break up for their Spring Holiday this Friday [the local authority have brought the holiday away from Easter for some reason].  We wish them well and look forward to welcoming them back in Holy Week.
