St. Margaret Mary Catholic Primary School

Our parish primary school underwent a Diocesan Inspection at the end of June.  The two inspectors, both experienced head teachers in Blackpool, judged the school to be Outstanding in all areas.
The opening paragraph of the report is a joy to read:

“St Margaret Mary is an outstanding Catholic school, where rigorous and accurate self-evaluation leads to continuous improvement. Excellent leadership at all levels ensures a shared, ambitious vision which fosters the highest of expectations for all members of the school community. The school is very welcoming and inclusive; pupils enjoy coming to school and they have positive attitudes to learning.
The quality of provision for the Catholic Life of the school is outstanding. The commitment from the parish priest, governors and staff to support pupils and families in their prayer life and growth in faith is a priority. Staff and governors set good examples, are very proud of their school and work well together. The school has met the changing needs of the wider community it serves and developed St Ninian’s Catholic Federation with clear vision, mission and purpose. Staff are very proud of their school and federation and work well together. Improved relationships and communication between school and the parish are a strength and this needs to continue to develop with parents.”

A copy of the full report will be made available.

Many congratulations to the staff and governors for their hard work and dedication.  Thanks especially to Mr Chris Wilkins who has stepped down at Executive head teacher.  We wish the new acting head teacher, Mr Luke Denny and all the staff and students a well-earned break…see you in September!

Pilgrimage to Rome 2020
Booking forms are now available for the Pilgrimage to Rome from 11th - 18th May 2020. Unfortunately, the cost has risen from the original quotation.  The previous quote had not taken into account a higher price for airfares, which are significantly higher than previously expected.  Also, the hotel we had intended to use is no longer available and a better hotel had been secured. It may be possible to reduce the duration of the pilgrimage to reduce costs. Please collect a booking form from Fr Michael. Please submit booking forms to Tangney as soon as you are able.

Sacred Heart ‘Caritas’
This group was founded with the aim of providing lunch for children in the area who would otherwise go hungry during school half-term holidays. It will launch during the October half-term.  It is important charity work, feeding the hungry in our local community, and an ideal way to put faith in action. The next planning meeting will be on 6th August in the Parish Centre after the evening Mass.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes
The diocese, led by Bishop Paul Swarbrick, begins the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes on Friday. Why not join those attending in a prayerful way in your homes: pray the rosary or some other prayers [A Memorare, the Litany of Loretto] from Friday?

Stuck With The Kids Over The Summer?  Not Sure What To do?
Why not start the day by assisting at one of the daily Masses in the parish?

Fr. Michael Lakeland
The death of Fr. Michael Lakeland, who served for a time at Christ the King as assistant priest, was announced on Wednesday. Please pray for the repose of his soul. May he rest in peace.
Please also pray for the repose of the soul of Fr. John Winstanley’s (parish priest in Penrith) father who has died.  May he rest in peace.

Annual Pilgrimage to Cleator
The annual pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Cleator will be held on Sunday 8th September with Mass and Blessing of the Sick at 3.00 pm. The principle celebrated will be Bishop Paul Swarbrick.  Tea and Coffee will be available before and after in the parish room.  If anyone is willing to organise a coach etc, then please see Fr. Michael.

New Car Park

A new car park for the school, on land behind the Parish Centre, and fencing for the school field [due to safeguarding regulations] is planned.  More details will follow when they are available. Funding for the project comes through LCVAP [a fund for capital projects for Voluntary Aided Schools] not the parish.
