Loyola University Chicago - Certificate/Diploma in Pastoral Ministry
The Diocese is undertaking a new venture in Pastoral Theology in conjunction with Loyola University, Chicago. Several other Northern English dioceses have already engaged in these programmes and the feedback from them has been extremely positive. There are two levels which can be pursued. Namely a two-year course leading to Certificate and a supplementary year which leads to a Diploma. The vast bulk of the course is “online”, with Individual Tutors, and there are opportunities to work alongside others through Group discussion. This course would be of benefit to Lay Chaplains, Catechists, Teachers, Clergy and indeed anyone who would like to explore Pastoral Theology in more detail.
There is an Information Evening in The Pastoral Centre in Lancaster on Thursday 17 October at 7:45 pm. There will be members of the Course Team present, as well as previous participants who can tell of their experience. Promotional material will be available soon.

August Arrangements for Holy Communion
During the month of August, due to holiday absences etc, Holy Communion will be distributed under one kind, the Sacred Host.  Any parishioners who are celiacs and only receive Holy Communion under the form of the Precious Blood should have a word with Fr. Michael.
It is timely to reaffirm our belief in the Catholic doctrine of ‘Concomitance’. The doctrine states that since Christ is indivisible, no one part of Christ's substance can be divided. Thus, Christ's sacred body cannot be separated from his sacred blood, which means that Christ's full presence is in each Eucharistic species fully. When we receive the Sacred Host - we receive His body, blood, soul and divinity.  When we receive the Precious Blood - we receive His body, blood, soul and divinity.

Hospital

Just a reminder that the Catholic Chaplaincy Team at the Cumberland Infirmary do not receive official notification of the presence of Catholic patients.  Families must let Fr Michael and/or Fr Frank at Warwick Square know if someone is in hospital and in need of a visit.   Holy Communion is taken regularly to patients who are known to the Chaplaincy team.
