Month of the Holy Souls
November, the Month of the Holy Souls, will soon be upon us.  A Novena of Masses will be celebrated for those on the November List.  Please use envelopes available in both churches to add deceased relatives, friends and loved ones to this Novena in November.  Hand envelopes into 
Fr Michael or place on offertory plate.

There were 72 + 110 + 182 at Mass last weekend. Thank you for your offering of £289.87 + £271.44 = £561.31.

Hospital
Just a reminder that the Catholic Chaplaincy Team at the Cumberland Infirmary do not receive official notification of the presence of Catholic patients.  Families must let Fr Frank at Warwick Square [521509] know if someone is in hospital and in need of a visit. Holy Communion is taken regularly to patients who are known to the Chaplaincy team.

Festive Choir
The Festival Choir will begin meeting again on Sunday 13th October from 7.00-8.30 pm at Christ The King. We would welcome any new members; young people from Y5 onwards would be especially welcome. 

New Car Park
Work has commenced on the new car park for St. Margaret Mary School.

RADIANT
A day for young and young at heart Catholics aged 14+ in preparation for Advent. This will take place on Saturday 30th November at Corpus Christi Catholic High School Preston.  The day starts at 10.00 am and ends with a Vigil Mass for the First Sunday of Advent at 5.00 pm.  Tickets for school groups are £5 per person and adults £8.00.  Young people under 16 must be part of a school, parish or family group. Dementia - A Shared Experience
Cumbria Partnership NHS Trust runs a session each first Friday of the month when you are invited to share your experience and ideas so as to influence how your local NHS delivers its memory service. This is open to those who experience memory loss and their carers. It takes place between 1.00–3.00pm at Harraby Community Centre. There is free parking and refreshments 

First Holy Communion 2020
This is planned for Sunday 19th April 2020 [the Second Sunday of Easter]. Preparation will commence after Christmas. Families are expected to attend Sunday Mass each week in the first instance.

Please check best before dates on all contributions. We aim to get parcels out a little earlier than usual and so will be starting deliveries in the week beginning 2nd December. Blessing of Graves
The Annual Blessing of Graves and prayers for those buried will take place on Sunday 3rd November at 12.30 pm [Weather permitting].

‘The Quiet Man’ Night

Mass for Deceased Clergy

The annual Mass for Deceased Clergy will be celebrated at Our Lady & St. Joseph at 10.00 am on Tuesday 19th November. Come and pray for the priest who baptised you, the priest from whose hands you received our Blessed Lord, the priest who married you, the priest who forgave you…pray for priests, pray for vocations to the priesthood.

All Saints, a holy day of obligation, will be celebrated on Friday 1st November.  Masses will be celebrated at 9.30 [MM], 11.45 [CTK] and 7.00 pm [MM].

There will be a Mass for All Souls - the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed on Saturday, 2nd November at 10.00 am.

The carpet has been flagged up as a ‘health and safety’ risk during a recent inspection and therefore needs to be lifted. If anyone is willing to volunteer to lift the carpet and place it in the skip, please see John Hather.

Fr Michael will be on his annual spiritual retreat from the evening of Monday 21st October to the afternoon of Friday 25th October. Please keep him in your prayers.

The Certificate in Pastoral Ministry is a customised Professional Development Programme offered by Loyola University, Chicago in partnership with the Archdiocese of Liverpool and dioceses in the North of England. Modules are six weeks long and are offered  online beginning in February 2020.

There is an information evening at the Education Centre, Balmoral Road, Lancaster on Tuesday 15th October from 7.00 pm until 8.30pm.  Please think about taking part in this course.  Parish sponsorship may be available dependent on numbers.

The Canonisation of Blessed John Henry Newman will take place on Sunday 13th October in St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome.  There is a national novena commencing on Friday 4th October, which we are all invited to participate in. Copies of the Novena will be available in both churches this weekend. A copy of the Novena has been mailed out with the weekly newsletter via Flocknote. There will be a Mass of Thanksgiving for the Canonisation at Christ the King [with Newman School in attendance] on Wednesday 16th October at 11.45 am.

The Mass this Friday evening is a Mass in the Extra-Ordinary Form.  This is celebrated for the benefit of the deanery at the request of the other priests of the deanery.  It is the custom to receive Holy Communion at these Masses kneeling and directly onto the tongue.
