Newsletter Items: 22nd & 29th December 2019

Happy Christmas!
This is my eighth, and likely to be my final, Christmas in the parish. Thank you for your support, patience and encouragement during the past year - especially following my appointment at Episcopal Vicar for Education and Formation.  It is a pleasure and an honour to serve you as parish priest.
I pray for every blessing on you and your families during this holy season of Christmas - may the Lord’s nativity sustain and strengthen us throughout the new year - whatever it may bring to us:  remember, God is with us.
Happy Christmas!                           Fr. Michael

Christmas Mass Times
The following Masses will celebrate the Nativity of the Lord in the Parish.  If family members are asking ‘What do you want for Christmas?’, maybe ask them ‘For you to come to Mass at Christmas’…just a thought.

Christmas Eve
St. Margaret Mary 6.30 pm
Christ the King 9.00 pm

Christmas Day
Christ the King 10.00 am

On Christmas Eve, Carols will be sung 30 minutes prior to the start of Mass.  There will be no early morning Mass this year.
To avoid multiple ‘What time’s Midnight Mass?’ phone calls - please share these times with friends and family.

Shepherds and Angels
Children [and any adults who may be inclined] are welcome to come dressed as shepherds and angels for the 6.30 pm Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve.

Annual Missals
A limited number of the 2020 Missals, which cover this liturgical year, are available to purchase for £7.50 - please see Fr Michael.  If you would like the 3-Year Missal to be ordered,  please see Fr. Michael.  Three year Missals are on order and should arrive soon.

Parish Advent Family Carol Service
Thank you to all who attended this parish celebration at Christ the King.  Special thanks to the musicians, choir and readers and also to the singers from St. Margaret Mary Primary School.  It was a lovely celebration.

Holy Communion is taken regularly to patients who are known to the Chaplaincy team.

This is planned for Sunday 19th April 2020 [the Second Sunday of Easter]. Preparation will commence after Christmas. Families are expected to attend Sunday Mass each week in the first instance.

Floor Renovations at St. Margaret Mary
The work on the floor at St. Margaret Mary is now complete and the new carpet has been fitted - it is of good quality and should last for many years. The floor renovation [the first in 57 years] has cost £4,288 or around £15 per square metre. The carpet costs are yet to be received.  If you would like to make a donation towards these costs - perhaps by sponsoring a square metre [or two] - please make a donation in an envelope marked ‘New Floor’.

North Cumbria Life
North Cumbria Life: For many years now both St Margaret Mary’s and Christ The King Churches have been providing lots of very valuable baby items to our store in Carlisle, which is very much appreciated. Our store is now full and we ask that no more items are supplied for the time being

Weekday Mass for the holiday period is advertised - a slightly later start to the day.  Why not come to Mass during this period, especially on New Year’s Day when we honour Mary as Mother of God - a lovely way to start the new year and to ask for God’s blessing on our families and friends.
