The God who Speaks: Advent Reflections
This liturgical year, the Bishops of England and Wales encourage us to reflect on the gift of Scripture under the banner ‘The God who Speaks’. On Monday evening at 7.30 pm in the parish centre in Advent, Fr Michael will lead a reflection on the Sunday Scripture - this week the first reading from Isaiah. All are welcome to come along. Please bring a bible…
In the new year, we will have a series of talks on St. Matthew’s Gospel.

Annual Missals
A limited number of the 2020 Missals, which cover this liturgical year, are available to purchase for £7.50 - please see Fr Michael.  If you would like the 3-Year Missal to be ordered, please see
Fr Michael.

Advent Sacrament of Reconciliation
Please prepare well for Christmas by making a good Examination of Conscience and by receiving absolution through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available additionally during Advent on Wednesday evenings [beginning the week of 9th December at St. Margaret Mary) during the Eucharistic Holy Hour between 6.00 pm and 7.00 pm.

Parish Advent Family Carol Service
The annual Carol Service will take place at Christ the King at 4.00 pm on Sunday 15th December 2019.  It is hoped that the earlier time will assist families to attend…please come along.

Collection for Christmas Flowers
There will be a collection this weekend for Christmas flowers in both churches.

Ad Orientem
As has become the custom in the parish, Masses during Advent, celebrated by Fr Michael, will be ‘ad orientem’ as we await the Lord with joyful expectation.

Christmas Mass Times
The following Masses will celebrate the Nativity of the Lord in the Parish. If family members are asking ‘What do you want for Christmas?’ maybe ask them ‘For you to come to Mass at Christmas’…just a thought.

On Christmas Eve, Carols will be sung 30 minutes prior to the start of Mass.  There will be no early morning Mass this year.

Carlisle Food Bank

Figures for Last Weekend
Figures were not available at the time of publication of the parish newsletter.

Just a reminder that the Catholic Chaplaincy Team at the Cumberland Infirmary do not receive official notification of the presence of Catholic patients.  Families must let Fr Frank at Warwick Square [521509] know if someone is in hospital and in need of a visit. Holy Communion is taken regularly to patients who are known to the Chaplaincy team.

First Holy Communion 2020
This is planned for Sunday 19th April 2020 [the Second Sunday of Easter]. Preparation will commence after Christmas. Families are expected to attend Sunday Mass each week in the first instance.

To receive the parish newsletter by e-mail, please sign up to the deanery Flocknote initiative. Visit: Then sign up under the parish with which you associate.

Carpet at St. Margaret Mary
Work has started on the floor of St. Margaret Mary Church together with a new carpet, which will run down the central aisle to the Sanctuary and Altar, and which will [hopefully] be in place by Christmas.  Thank you for your patience.

St Margaret Mary SVP
Once again, we will be collecting goods for food parcels before the end of term and delivering them to local families in need. Tinned fruit and meat are especially welcome as well as toiletries. Please check best before dates on all contributions. We aim to get parcels out a little earlier than usual and so will be starting deliveries in the week beginning 2nd December. Thank you in advance for your continued support.

Mass for the Sick & Housebound
Mass for the Sick & Housebound will be celebrated on Monday 9th December at 2.30 pm. Please come along. For more information please contact Paul Daley.

North Cumbria Life
North Cumbria Life: For many years now both St Margaret Mary’s and Christ The King Churches have been providing lots of very valuable baby items to our store in Carlisle, which is very much appreciated. Our store is now full and we ask that no more items are supplied for the time being.

Christmas Lunch for Parishioners
St. Margaret Mary Primary School invite parishioners to a Christmas lunch on Wednesday 18th December.  Please see sign up sheet for more details - sign the sheet if you would like to attend.

Mass in the Extra-Ordinary Form
Mass on Friday evening is the monthly Mass in the Extra-Ordinary Form.  All are welcome to attend this celebration of Holy Mass.

Early Morning Mass - Ideal for Workers

Why not attend the early morning Mass one day this week - a bit of extra effort for Advent?  Mass at 7.30 am usually lasts no more than 20 minutes - you can be on your way by 7.50 am each day.  Give it some thought.
